October 2016 Meeting Minutes

EDEN PRAIRIE RADIO CLUB (EPRC) Meeting Minutes
K0EPR           146.880

October 20, 2016

The meeting of the Eden Prairie Radio Club was called to order at 1900 hours at Prairie Hills Evangelical Free Church.

$1011.70 is in the EPRC account. <— from last time presented

The meeting started at 7:00 pm with Jake Jacobson (K9WN) presiding

Seven members were in attendance

There was one guest, Soren, who is from Denmark and now resides in Texas, on a work contract in Minnesota.

The club secretary was absent, no report was given.

The club treasurer was absent, no report was given.

Jake told of his recent contact with the Last Man Standing ham station, KA6LMS, and handed around the QSL card from the contact.

There was a roving member introduction and status for those in attendance to see what each was up to.

Monte gave a presentation on the status of the Emergency Communications effort ongoing with the EP Fire Department.

A summary of the emergency communications activities (attached) was given to members. One point highlighted was information from the FEMA AUXCOMM meeting in October by way of the Bloomington Communications Group: Don't self deploy - if you go to an emergency scene you WILL be turned away and will be 'black listed'. If you want to help, you must do it through an emergency organization.

Jake demonstrated his portable HF/VHF Go-Kit, a Yaesu FT-897 with a LDG Z-11 Pro antenna tuner mounted together with battery connections for portable operation.

Soren showed a hand-held 2m satellite 3 element beam made of measuring tape paired with a Baofeng 2m/440 handheld.  After the meeting he showed two other hand-held satellite beams he had..

Respectfully submitted: Monte, filling in for Jonathan Hamilton
