Check-Ins 11-13-2016

Tonights topic - Share your thoughts or experiences with strange or interesting ham radio related rituals.
Next weeks topic - Share a fun/memorable past home-brew/experiment/project.

k9w9 - Jake - Is waiting for the freeze and will need to close up the porch soon. Remembers that field day is strange each year ;). Might talk about home brewing for the next EPRC meeting?
ak4wq - Soren - At 8pm will be the satellite pass on Thursday. Interested in hearing about Ham radio related home brew stuff and thinks cheap ham radio DIY is always fun. It seems all mannerisms in ham radio are strange to begin with.
n0wfj - Bob - Enjoying the weekend. Last pile of leaves all bagged and done.
Ke0ecf - Ron - Went to the veteran luncheon at the church. Researching the programming of EF Johnson at the moment. The moons orbit takes it closer to us now tonight than it will be for the next few years. Make sure to check it out.
ke0br - David - The moon is the brightest it will be for the next 30 years. David has lots of home brew projects around. Lots started.

Wa0vll - Roger - Many years ago he converted a CB (RME?) tunable receiver and crystals for transmit to get it on the 10 meter band. From a hill in Bloomington he was able to talk to some folks in New Zealand. 3 watts and snow coming down with the antenna hooked to the bumper of a car. This may have been around 1971.

kd0mgh - Ron - Nothing new from his end. One for the count. Recovering from the Vikings loss.

Ke0ahu - Alan - Trying to put up an G5rv-mini antenna. In the attempt to put it up into a tree Alan ended up with a full beer can up in a tree 40 feet up. Will need to maybe tie it off to the Chimney.

k0fey - Jonathan - Got that HF and VHF antenna into the attic (HOA rules) finally and first net at the desk instead of the HT.

A great contest is occurring all this year:
http://www.arrl.org/npota is the link for anyone interested in talking about this at our next meeting.

BroadCastify is now set up. You can listen to the repeater (with a 30 second delay) thought the link below. This is a great way to hear yourself for audio and whatever.

We will have the next EPRC radio club meeting next month on November 17th.

3rd Thursday of the month at 7 PM Central

kd0mgh - Ron - A squelch adjustment fixed with the issue he was having and all back to normal. Exciting news this weekend cause now there is a new vehicle in the family! The family is loving Jeeps and Subarus (neat features like i-sight active braking). Enjoyed a beautiful weekend and raked all the leaves and now with a clean front and back yard.
ke0br - David - Having a good weekend and patiently waiting for a trees leaves to drop finally.
ke0ecf - Ron - Coming in over Echolink with good audio but a little background interference, one for the count and a quick chat about cars.

wa0vll - Roger - Roger is doing well up Northand has the computer going again so able to join us for the net.

WA0VLL >< KD0B:
50 foot crank up tower from Edina. Is something we want to pursue (potentially at fire station for location.) ensure we look at:
distance from members/users
who controls the ownership/maintenance/insurance/setup/teardown
crank-ups are complicated as far as maintaining and safety (cable breaking and guided) even non crank towers need to be guided many times but less in maintenance. crank is however easier to work on depending on how many times you would need to access.

k0fey - Jonathan - worked Saturday but got the mobile rig installed and working well with a little help from ke0br for audio tests. Also made it to a St Paul market and lunch with good friends.

Check-Ins 10-30-2016

ke0ahu - Alan - He is in Edina, and working tonight.
wa0vll - Roger - Had to switch to the phone tonight instead of EchoLink over the computer. Seems to work well for an App over Cellular and the computer may be broke but at least the weather is holding well.
ke0br-  David - Coming in from Eden Prairie, go a surprise when cutting some low hanging branches; found one with a piece of wire on it. That wire from that 20 year old antenna had  the tree grown around it.
n0wfj - Bob - More yard work this weekend but no grandkids. There is still more on the honey-do list for next weekend.
k9wn - Jake - Found out that perhaps the wa0rax repeater ,from the Albert lea radio club in Glenville MN, came in s3-s5 earlier today. Their PL tone was booming in and perhaps it is time we move to a PL tone ourselves for audio seperation.
ke0ecf - Ron - Participated in a national radio event today. Also found that a portable radio antenna did not work on one of his radio and apparently Red Wing can hit St Paul repeater for CAP. Fun stuff.

kd0mgh - Ron - Tonight, the handheld seems to hear entire conversation but the Kenwood can only hear a partial conversation. Loud and clear and then completely silent. This sounds like the squelch needs to be messed with.
kd0b - Dale -  Good eeeeeeeevening. Ron, Please look at the squelch dial for the radio cutout. Dale is back from Arizona with plenty of pictures. This weekend a few fellow hams went to assist a widow of a recent silent key and last week a few folks got new call signs during the last Chanhassen radio exam.

kd0jzm - Bob - in Hopkins and adding one for the count.

k9wn - Jake - Just got a $10 off ARRL coupon for his birthday…. It was an interesting meeting last Thursday with the out of town gentleman with many interesting antennas.

n0wfj - Bob - the “honey-dew” list is not completely done yet with plenty of leaves remaining on the ground but should allow for plenty to do later.

ke0br - David - Soren came with some interesting antennas on the Thursday meeting and made an impression. Still a few leaves on some trees…..

ke0ahu - Alan - Echolink on new setup for laptop….  coming in clear but with some background static??? If S9 for volume.. static is at S4-S5 but 8-9 on voice clarity.

wa0vll - Roger -  wonky “” keeps “muting” with level going down to 0 for some reason. seems to be unique to real-tech. Nice and warm (50 degrees) and put the dock in the other day.

kd0mgh - Ron - It was sad to see the Vikings lose this last game.

ke0ecf - Ron - He could not get in to the net recently but after recycling the communication gear all seems to work fine again. Also, echo-link does not seem to have any static on his end coming through echo-link himself.

kb0d - recheck, conversation with Roger.

kd4ave - Michael checking in via Echo-link from the SouthEast corner of Alabama. He just had shoulder surgery and trying out a few repeaters on Echo-link to determine if there was an issue with the repeater resetting the EchoLink connection of if was more of a local thing with he repeater he was trying previously. This is a new Echo-link setup on the local Alabama repeater.
